In years past I’ve introduced my Crayon Art Techniques to many K-12 schools, art clubs, art galleries and private art classes and I’ve observed that many students do not have the basic skills and hand-eye coordination abilities to create artwork beyond elementary school levels.
I designed “THE ULTIMATE COLORING BOOK” to serve as an introduction to the basic fundamentals of fine art with crayons, requiring no special art paper or tools. Simply print the outline drawing and follow the directions to start the lesson!
The Ultimate Coloring Book is the “Next Step” process after the Crayon Art Techniques tutorial for the beginner or novice artists who want to develop or improve their skills when coloring with crayons.
POP ART FLOWER
By appearances, the Pop Art Flower design may seem like it could be easily mastered. I designed this project to focus on the movement of the hand and fingers to perform in a smooth rhythmic pattern to develop a continual automatic response for the steady control of the crayon. I compare it to the “wax on wax off” scene in the classic movie The Karate Kit.
BUTTERFLY
This project focuses on training the eyes, hand and brain to work together by applying various degrees of crayon pressure onto the paper through layering and gradient techniques. The mind works to solve problems by determining balance, color, tones, etc., at the same time controlling and regulating hand pressure.
COLORFUL BUG
This project re-enforces the same disciplines as the “Butterfly” emphasizing dexterity and patience.
FLYING PARROT
This project combines the learned crayon techniques paying careful attention to texture, fine point details, layering, mixing and organizing colors.
